It’s not the thunder that’s so scary, just the way that it arrives.

It comes without a warning, and takes us by surprise.

In lively rhyming text, a courageous boy guides his stuffed animal companions and his parents through a thunderstorm using sensory-based mindfulness to navigate his fear and find quiet within the storm. Through this soothing story, kids will understand that thunderstorms can also bring good things, such as calming rain and water for plants. The atmospheric illustrations capture the darkness of a storm and the light that comes through as fear subsides.

By age four, children become aware that other people are reacting to them. This marks their first experience with being self-conscious. As they gain a sense of “me”, these social interactions help them forge their identities, and issues like self esteem and self-worth emerge as critical determinants of how they think and feel about themselves.  Mirror Face is written for children entering this stage of life and centers on an activity that children all over the world engage in: looking in the mirror.

Drawing fellow passengers on the Metro-North Harlem line is the only thing that keeps illustrator Lisa Fields sane when she commutes to New York City from White Plains, NY.

This 6x9, 72 page book is a collection of over 100 of Lisa’s favorite sketches from those commutes. The drawings are done in various combinations of pen and ink, pencil, paint pens and watercolor washes.
